Hey y'all!

So let me just start off by saying.... I AM SO EXCITED!! If you follow me on social media then you may have heard that my husband has moved to Texas... and the kids and I are following! That's right, we will be moving back home in July and I am so happy!

While living in Kansas City this go round has really given me a different outlook on the city, I am and will always be a Texas girl. I have met so many wonderful people here and I have been able to experience many opportunities here! But all that is for another blog post lol

SO... now to the reason WHY you clicked that link. You want to know how to style this years HOTTEST shoe trend. MULES! Ok, so I know mules are not anything new but they have been revamped and made stylish for this era again! I mean have you ever really seen a pair of mules from a few decades ago? SCARY!

If you are kinda wondering what in the world is a mule ( in the fashion world), they are those amazing slides that have the back of your foot out. HMMM, kinda like the "3 letter word "of your foot out hence the reference to a mule/donkey.. haha Dad joke maybe?

Anyway! These shoes are all the craze right now in the fashion/blogging world and I am here for it! So, just how do you style them? It's simple really.

#1. Find a pair that can be staple items in any wardrobe- When you find a pair that can be mixed and matched with different colors, you will find that styling them is a lot easier.

#2. Pair them with anything above the ankle- Long dresses and pants don't really give these shoes a opportunity to shine! Wearing shorts, skirts or pants that come to the ankle (joggers, boyfriend style etc..) will really put them on display.

#3. OWN IT- Be confident in your fashion choice! I was always one that loved certain styles but would be afraid of how I would look in it. For example, I hate my feet! I have large veins and wide feet... not to mention a normal sized ankle with massive calves. So anything that really accentuates from the knee down would tend to be a large NO for me lol. But once I just owned it or at least pretended to, I felt more comfortable in my fashion choices.

See how easy it is to rock these babies!? If you are still hesitant about trying them out, head over to Target (or your favorite store) and get you some! They have cute pairs that will boost your confidence and take your wardrobe to the next level!

Are you a lover of the mule trend or do they need to go back to where they came from lol. Let me know in the comments below!

Hey y'all!

Summer is basically here now  and you know what that means! Family outings! When you are a mom, you LOVE and LIVE for family outings. Getting everyone loaded up and out the door not only has some adventure perks, but it also has some "I don't have to do the dishes!" perks too.

However, there are times when getting the family out and about can become more of a headache than actual fun. You may forget something, you could be running behind ( like we do A LOT lol) or you could just have so much going on that your brain ends up being completely scattered!

A few weeks ago, we decided to head to the drive in to celebrate little Italy's birthday. I knew from the moment the plan was marked on the calendar that I needed to plan it all out and make sure I had everything ready for that evening. A drive in can be very fun for the whole family or it can be total chaos if something gets left behind.

So, just how do you plan the perfect outing? Well keep reading for a few of my tips on how to plan for the perfect evening and how you can enjoy the drive in with kids!

1. Set a date- We all know this is the most important for obvious reasons, but setting a date is more crucial than you may realize. When you set a date, you are able to put together a checklist or deadline to get everything in order. Also, you can check the weather (if it's not too far in advance) to make sure that the evening temps will be doable. The last thing you want is to have extreme heat with newborns our youngsters that don't do well in the heat.

2. Make a list- Making a list and checking it more than once may seem like a lot of "extra-ness". It's not! I made a list and I checked it over every time I got something that was on it. I actually still ended up missing one thing on my list, but I ended up not needing it anyway so pheww!
A few must haves for me are:
  • Blankets
  • Pillows
  • Allergy Medicine/Tissues
  • Charger
  • Activities etc..

3.Snacks/ Refreshments- Since this was for Italy's birthday, I pretty much let her pick out what she wanted lol. As you can see in the list above, we wrote down everyone's  ideas and we went from there. Packing plenty of snacks for in between dinner and shows is just as important as the refreshments. Since it is a drive in, you can pretty much bring anything in! So, I packed plenty of bottled waters, kid fruit infused waters, my La Croix and some sugar free pop! The kids enjoyed pizza for dinner and a yummy cupcake for dessert in honor of the birthday girl!

4. Get comfy- Since you are headed to a drive in, you should really plan to be there for around 5 hours and well into the early morning hours. We arrived around 6:45 and the show did't start until around 7:30 which was perfect for us. I made sure I packed their favorite pillows, plenty of blankets that I didn't mind getting messy. I also had them get showered and dressed into their pajamas so when we got home, they could just got right to bed. Make sure you pack plenty of blankets and sweaters. It may be summer but once the sun goes down, you could be in for quite an evening chill.

 5. Pre game activities- Since we were there so early, I knew the kids were going to need something to keep them from getting restless! Each kid had their own backpack with books, coloring pages, pencils and crayons. I also brought a deck of kiddie number cards to keep them busy!

Check out some of the fun we had!

So there you have it! A few simple tips to help you plan the perfect family outing at the drive in for you and your family!  Did I miss a few? Let me know in the comments below!

Hey Y'all!

Today is the day. A bittersweet one that I knew was coming, one that I have dreaded for a while. Actually I dreaded it since the day she was born!

Today my little Italy turned 5! She is officially no longer a toddler but a "little kid". Since Italy is my last baby, I have had so many different emotions! On one hand, I am perfectly fine with having a child that can do many, many things on her own. On the the other, knowing that there will never be another baby after her is kind of a hard pill to swallow.I'm sure by time she hits those awful pre-teen years I will be thanking my lucky stars I won't have to deal with it after her lol.

Within the past 12 hours, Italy has definitely shown that she is ready for this new chapter! From picking out her earrings she wanted to wear today to he "expert" posing techniques lol.

Italy is in a world all her own and you can always expect a great laugh (or headache) with her! She has changed so much within this year but her personality just keeps getting brighter!

Want to see how she has changed? Check out THIS IS 4, to see just how much she has changed!

So, as I do for all of the kiddos, here is a little about Italy :)

This is 5!

1. Favorite Food- Broccoli and chicken with macaroni
2. Favorite Color- Red, white and green
3. Favorite Toy- My Foxy Lemon (Shopkin wild style)
4. Favorite thing to do- I like to color at my house with my family
5. What will 5 be like? You get to pick stuff out by yourself!

My little Italy is definitely one that likes to feel independent! She is smart, kind and always lets her light shine bright. She has so much love for everyone  and a mouth that that can't be stopped lol!

Italy, mommy and daddy love you so much! You were our surprise baby and you never let us forget it!

She said "these earrings are for when a girl turns 5!"

Hey y'all!

What's the one thing we would never, ever, EVER wish on someone's kid? That's right! We would never wish one's child ill for any reason. Period!

But what happens when your child does end up sick? Are you making it more stressful? Do they feel so uncomfortable they can't  settle down? Are they afraid? There are so many factors that come into play when your toddler is sick.

Really quick story time folks!

A few weeks ago, my family and I came home from the movies ( it was Miracle Season, which is AMAZING BTW) and Italy was complaining about a tummy ache. Naturally, I thought to myself " she is only saying this because it is bedtime". So, after a few hugs, kisses and tucking her in, she finally went to bed.. but not for long. Italy woke up around 4:30-5:00 am crying that her tummy hurt and she had to go potty. What seemed like a longer than normal time in the bathroom, she came out screaming and crying because she had diarrhea! I knew it was all down hill at that point. What started off as an upset stomach quickly turned into a low grade fever and vomiting.

As I was sitting there trying to console my toddler, I started going over and over everything that I was doing to help her in my head. So, I was inspired to write this post as a guide, reassurance or whatever you think you may need it for when caring for your sick toddler!

So, just how can you help your toddler and yourself through it? Well, here are a few tips!

1. Stay Calm- If you see that your toddler is sick or in pain, freaking out is the first and fastest way to stress them out more. Stay relaxed and calm to ease their worries and to keep you from feeling overwhelmed.

2. Get Organized- I know getting organized may not seem like top priority when you have a sick toddler but it is crucial to how everything will play out. Get your bucket, medicines, clear liquids and blankets ready and in place so you can grab them quickly.

Staying comfy with mama :)

3. Get Comfortable- A sick toddler needs a lot of rest and so will you after you tending to them. Getting comfy on the couch with your little one will ease any anxiety or stress they are feeling. My little Italy is so afraid of throwing up that the only way to calm her is to get her comfortably situated with me so I can rub her back and she can rub my ear.

4. Protect- What's one way us moms get stressed out? A BIG OL' MESS! Protect your couch/bed and floor by placing old sheets on the areas around your toddler and the floor. Sometimes my kids have projectile vomiting and it is always easier to keep the area around them covered. If they get any on the couch or floor, I can rinse it off and throw it in the washing machine. Trust me, you don't want to scrub vomit out of the run or furniture.
The picture below is my couch. I have two sheets draped over the couch and floor and blankets to keep her comfortable.

5. Nurture- Simply showing love and affection to your sick toddler will naturally make them feel better. Italy and I layed on the couch all day watching PBS Kids, cuddling and napping. Thankfully my middle two were able to handle their own needs for the day.

6. Reassure/Affirmation- Along with being nurturing, reassuring them is just as important. If your kiddo is afraid of throwing up like Italy is, reassuring them that it is natural and will help them feel better can really help them fight through it. Kids love to hear that they are doing a good job, so telling them that they are brave or doing an awesome job will definitely make them feel at ease.

Now I have to say this, I am not a Dr. nor do I claim to be a child rearing pro lol. I am a mom, and while these may seem like easy or common  sense rules to live by, we all need a little reminder or tip to be our best.

I hope you found these tips helpful and if you know a new mom (or dad) that could use them, feel free to pass it along!

What do you do that helps you and your toddler get through the dreaded "sick day"? Let me know in the comments below!
