Hey y'all!

So let me tell you a little secret about me. I am a plus size woman! Whew.. now that that's outta the bag we can go home.... ( kidding). Yes, I am plus sized and as much I would like to say " I love the way I look" that would be a flat out lie.

The truth is, a lot of women (plus size or not) have issues with their bodies and how clothing contributes to our insecurities. We tend to constantly live in fear of how something makes us look or if it flatters your figure.

Growing up, I was always told I couldn't wear stripes or heard someone say "Big people can't wear stripes", or "Stripes make you look wider than you actually are!". While patterns can alter the way we see shapes and it can give off the illusion of multiple angles or inaccurate distances, plus size women can wear stripes! If you are a plus size woman there are plenty of ways to rock stripes so don't ever feel like you can't!

I for one have always struggled with clothing and how it looks on me, even when I lost over 100 pounds. It wasn't until this past Spring that I finally pulled the trigger and bought a striped dress. Well, actually my husband was the one that badgered me to get it. He loved the colors and he thought they would look great on me. So after a quick back and forth I gave in and said I would wear it.

It took me about two weeks to actually put the dress on and get in front of a camera and I am actually glad I did! My striped dress is now one of my favorites!

Now, on to the reason you are reading this post.... how to rock stripes when you are plus size!

1. Be confident- A lot of the time  we are the one that  thinks we look ridiculous when in actuality, we don't! Showing that you are confident in your stripes gives off a vibe of love and confidence! So, if you have to practice wearing them around the house do it and walk out feeling like a million bucks!

2. Go vertical- Since stripes can alter shapes, going vertical will make your plus size figure longer and leaner! I know a lot of women love to look taller, especially with their legs!

3. Pair with a solid- Sometimes, going full stripe takes time. So, if you are someone that needs to test the waters first before going head first try pairing a solid color top with a pair of stripe pants or a strip top with a solid skirt. There are many different ways to mix it up so don't be afraid to try different looks.

4. Go black and white- We all know black is pretty slimming and white can accentuate so wearing black and white stripes will not only slim but the white will enhance those curves giving you an amazing figure!

5. Layers- If you prefer horizontal stripes but aren't a fan of how they look on you, layer up with kimono, cardigan or duster. Adding a layer on top whether it's solid or a print can also add a dimension to your look and give you a bomb outfit and be beyond flattering.

6. Add a POP of color- Along with wearing black and white stripes, a pop of color can definitely draw the eye to a an area you would much rather be the focus. Our eyes tend to go straight towards the obvious odd color. Try adding a bright color in your top, pants or dress!

Hey y'all!

Guys, springtime is always a bitter sweet time for me, I have the Spring Holy Days, which I love, and everyone has a birthday which I don't love! Seriously, 66% of my family have birthdays that not only seem to happen right after one another they seem to come a lot quicker these days. I mean can I recover from the first kids birthday already?!

Each year the kids birthdays seem to get harder and harder for me. I had my children close in age which I had planned on, but having them so close in the year.. I DID NOT! Last year, Thai turned 10 and then a month later, Italy turned 5! Very big milestones in a kids life. Then you throw in two birthdays in between those, one being the big 3-0 and the other for the only boy... emotions are bound to erupt! The only birthday I can fully mentally prepare for is Phoenix's. Hers is so far down the year that I have time to recuperate and prepare for another child to grow up on me.

Well this birthday should come as no surprise to many of you, this birthday is for the boy! The only boy in our mini gang of kids.

My son is my heart and joy, the one who loves hugs more than anyone else and the one that looks up to his dad as if he was a super hero! My husband has had plenty of nicknames for Baltimore but one that has stuck (and Baltimore actually likes) is King #2. He loves that his father calls him that and also, he loves that his sisters look at him and respect him as King #2.
I on the other hand know that he will eventually grow up, get married and have a life of his own and that I will no longer be the number one woman in his life. AND THAT HURTS! Each birthday, I try to tell myself that no matter how old he gets, who his wife is and how many kids they have, that he will always be my baby boy.... just in a different stage of his life.

I have been blessed with my family and while at times I can't stand the boyish (ie nasty, stinky, weird and death defying) things my son does, I know that I am blessed!

So as I continue this tradition of making a blog post memory/keepsake, I want to wish my King #2 a happy birthday!

This is 8!

1. What's your favorite color? Green
2.What's your favorite food? Brokle (Broccoli)
3.What is your favorite show? Pokemon
4.What is your favorite book? Don't know
5.What is you favorite subject in school? Language Arts
6. What is your favorite sport? Football
7. What is your hidden talent? No ( he has taught himself many break dancing moves without watching anyone... so yea, I think that is his talent!)
8. What do you think 8 will be like? Good

As you can see, Baltimore is a man of many words lol.

Baltimore, daddy and I love you more than you will ever know! We are so thankful that God has blessed us with a young man that not only loves his family and God's way of life, but also goes out of his way to show it! We are so proud of you and all that you have accomplished so far! WE LOVE YOU!

Hey y'all!

Whelp time has officially went into hyper speed and there are no signs of slowing down. My special baby is officially 11 years old today!

Did y'all know that the "tween age" actually starts at 9?! I mean who made that official???  I think I need to have a serious chat with them and their personal vendetta against emotional moms like myself! Having half of my litter enter into this tween/teen era has definitely dehydrated me more than once. lol

Thais first eyebrow threading!

But in all seriousness, my sweet baby Thai is now 11, and while there have been plenty.. and I mean PLENTY of battles that we have had to fight (her dad and I) we have always been blessed to be with her another day!

Thailand has "grown up" a lot since her last birthday which you can read about it HERE. Not only has she officially become a young woman physically, but she has also had to deal with more challenges and pressures as being an older sibling. I know she is thankful for her big sister to show her the ropes on a lot of things so thankfully that has only had a few minor mishaps!

So, I know y'all are just DYING to see how much she has changed sine last year lol! This is 11!

1. What's your favorite color? (long pause) RED
2. What's your favorite subject? Math and Science
3. What's your favorite book? I don't have one
4. What's your favorite food? Jalapeno wings and Aunt Juliene's adobo
5. What's your favorite movie? I don't know! I have too many!
6. What's your favorite sport? Volleyball
7. What's your favorite activity? Playing with my siblings
8.What's your most favorite thing? Dogs!
9. What is your least favorite subject? Language Arts
10. What do you want to be when you grow up? I don't know
11. What do you think 11 will be like? I don't know.. more fun I guess?! Oh and lots of cleaning and chores to do.

Our weekly tradition!

Well she definitely knows what's in store for her as she continues to get older hahaha! Whelp folks, that's a wrap for this edition. As the year goes along we will be having more birthdays and milestones so make sure you keep up with my family and I on my socials! And if you haven't already, check out some of my older posts to see what we have been up to!

Hey y’all!

Man, I have seriously been slacking on my blog lol! I feel like this is the first post I’ve done in FOREVER! Well maybe because it has been lol.

ANYWAY!

As y’all know I have been super busy (what’s new) with homeschooling, being a wife, being a parent and doing miscellaneous work on Instagram and other social platforms. Blogging has kinda taken a backseat and even though I just  celebrated my 3rd blogiversary, I don’t feel as proud of it as I once did. I feel like I have abandoned my creative little aesthetic filled blog because of this thing called life.

WELL.....

I’m determined to keep it going! Blogging brought so much joy into my life and it’s time I start putting it into the forefront of my responsibilities!

With all dat being said lol, the past few weeks I have been taking note of the time I spend with my girls. What are we doing? Are we enjoying each other? Am I actually going into their “world” instead of always bringing them into mine? My second oldest is the one that really made me start to wonder and take note of the things we do and don’t do. Quick story time! We were sitting at the local mom hub (Chick Fil A) and as Italy (youngest) and I were talking about doing our nails, Thailand had a look of almost neglect that I wasn’t talking about doing hers. I noticed her reaction and I asked her if she wanted to do hers as well. I was surprised at how much joy that instantly brought her! We chatted a bit more and long story short, she loves all the girly things that I do with Italy.. she just never “talks about it”. I felt soo bad! How could I let my baby feel like this? Then... to top it off, my step daughter Phoenix is about to be a TEENAGER!!! Her days of cuddling up to me are pretty much gone... cue to violins please!

I have girls at different stages in their life, different interests and different personalities. I had to make sure that I would do anything and everything possible to keep our bond strong and really see who they are outside of being my little babies.
So, that inspired this post! Fun, simple mother/daughter bonding ideas that will allow you to strengthen and develop the love between you both!

1. Brunch Dates- Or dinner, or lunch... my house is a brunch house sooo yea lol. Having intimate dates over a meal is one of the best ways to start conversations. You find out things they like, don’t like, their quirky eating habits and really whatever you want to talk about! Food always brings people together! I try to have dates with my girls as much as I can afford lol.

2. Spa Day- So my girls and I have started a new tradition every Friday evening as soon as the sun sets for our weekly Sabbath. Every Friday evening, we sport a new face mask! Walmart has some cheap ones that are surprisingly good! If you missed my post on frugal beauty finds, you can check it out HERE! We have so much fun picking them out and of course laughing at how silly we look! Spa day also consists of doing nails from time to time!

3. Movies-  Going to the movies is one of our FAVES! We love the build up of going and talking about how much we loved (or hated) it. The movies is a great way to get to know your kiddo and bond over similarities. You learn what makes them laugh, cry or inspires them.

4. Shopping- Weather you are window shopping or buying everything in sight, going shopping can really strengthen a mother daughter relationship. You get to learn their style, what colors they like, what fads they’re into and of course talk!

5. Games- My second oldest loves video games. She is always getting active with Just Dance on the Wii and of  course she wants the whole family to play! It took me a while to put aside my tiredness and actually play along. I needed to put that effort in to make sure I was bonding with her in her world, not just mine.

6. Baking- Every kid at some point loves to make messes in the kitchen! I let my kiddos from time to time get in there and get messy, but as my schedule has begun to fill, their time in the kitchen is a lot more limited than I would like. We do have special traditions though that allow us to definitely get that bonding time in the kitchen together.

7.Art Projects- Look, I have always loved art. Painting, creating sketching and all that. But I SUCK at it lol. My step daughter is an amazing artist and I truly love to see her work! I am amazed at her attention to details and how she challenges herself to get better. But now that she’s older and our time together is limited, I plan on doing more with her when it comes to art. I want to again step into her world and not just bring her into mine.

8. Mini Makeovers-  My youngest is probably the MOST like me lol. She loves makeup, dressing up and being a complete DIVA lol. There have been several times where we had bonding time playing in my makeup and then trying not to forget it was on my face before I left the house lol. We even made a video last year! You can laugh along HERE!

9. Bible Study- Bible study is fairly new for our kids so we are still trying to get into a rhythm, but studying together not only strengthens our bond, but it strengthens our love and faith in Jesus. We purchased our kids their own Bible a little while ago and Thai brings it with her EVERYWHERE!

10. Pajama Party- There are times when just cuddling on the couch or in the bed is enough! There have been several times where the girls would come into my room at night and just talk. It was the best! One of my favorite pajama party memories was when my Sweet P was around 7 or 8. She came into my room late one night and and wanted to call her mom. She had been staying with us for the summer and she missed her. She sat on my bed and talked with her for about 5-7 minutes and then got off. When she got off the phone, I expected her to go to bed but she didn’t. She stayed in my room and we started to talk about mother daughter relationships and how it's so important to keep the line of communication open. We talked about how hard it was to have two homes, we talked about how she felt about me and me being with her dad. She told me hen that she was happy I was her step mom and that she loved me a lot. We sat up all night in our pjs and watched one of my favorite movies.... The Cheetah Girls! Right before it was over, Thailand came in to join the fun and watch another movie! It was everything I have always wanted!

11. Going to the Park- We are homeschoolers so the park is like our gym time lol. I love playing with the kiddos, snapping photos of them and just letting them run wiled! Italy loves to find random objects and bring them to me. One of our favorite parks even has a little library! We pick out books from time to time and spend a little time reading them in the park!

12. Tell Jokes- Laughter is just as powerful as food! Telling jokes allows both of you to open up and laugh at silly things. I really believe that every time your child laughs with you, their love grows too!

There are so many ways to bond with your daughter so this list will be ever growing! We all want our daughters to grow into being our BFFs and once they are older and can really make their own decisions, they will definitely want to be yours too!

What are some of your favorite bonding activities? Let me know in the comments below so I can add them!
